Start A Note Box

I often instructed my students or anyone I mentor about the importance of handwritten notes. The impact they have when someone first receives it, or if you are like me, the impact it has months or years later. This Holiday season might be the time to send someone a note letting them know you appreciate them or perhaps it’s a New Year’s resolution to send a note to someone each month during 2024.

I recently received notes from a college student I am working with at the University of Nevada and a colleague with whom I’ve known for years. Both are going into my “Feel Good” Box.

In encourage you to start your own “Feel Good” Box by collecting and keeping notes you have receive. I have been collecting notes for more than 30 years. Dig into the box from time to time and you will find –

·         Thank you notes for something kind you did.

·         Support when you needed it.

·         A note from someone you are no longer close to, and it may remind you of the better times together. You may or may not want to reconnect.

·         Relationships that have lasted the test of time.

·         Words of encouragement.

·         Genuine caring or celebration.

As my mother often said, go out there and “make somebody happy!”
