When one thinks of engagement a person may think of the precursor to being married, others may think of an obligation, and individuals like me think about how an organization can interact with individuals.

I have been a proponent of engagement since first learning about the field of development and starting my career. At the time, as I was stacking chairs, I didn’t realize the impact engagement had, but as I learned how people truly cared about various organizations I have been involved with, I quickly learned the magnitude of engagement opportunities. If an organization doesn’t take the time to “engage” with the community or with its internal and external constituents, then that organization is neglecting a very important tool.

1.       Creating a volunteer pipeline

2.       Demonstrating impact

3.       Establishing new relationships
